Every now and again in woman’s life she needs to make that uncomfortable decision to have THAT conversation with her makeup bag. You know the one I mean. That conversation that includes such feared cliches as”’It’s not you, it’s me.”, and “I just think we have grown apart.” As hard as this conversation is to have though, it is always for the best. Because every woman sometimes just needs to find something better. Or as Beyonce has coined it, an “upgrade”.
This week we are going to delve into that makeup bag of yours, and I am going to provide you with great ways on how to upgrade those products whom at this point you are just comfortable with. Calgon take me away!
Lipstick- A great and longer lasting alternative to lipstick is a lip stain. Joe Fresh has an amazing line of stains which are reasonably priced, but I have to admit Tony Moly has completely won me over. Tony Moly is a Korean brand (I love love love asian cosmetics), so unfortunately if you live in Canada like me you will have to order online. Not ready to completely break it off with your lipstick? Try a hybrid! Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm Stains are a thing of absolute magic. They are highly moisturizing lip stains with the consistency of a lip balm, and once the gloss wears down you are left with a gorgeous stain. I have raved about this product in a previous blog, and I now am proud owner of 7 colours in total. I just cannot get enough.
Foundation- Perfecting your skin base during your morning routine can be an arduous task. Think about it, before you can even powder your skin you have to moisturize, put on SPF, slap on some primer, and THEN you put on foundation. I prefer to do this all in one step using a BB cream. Here’s where it gets tricky though. Don’t get hooked in by any American branded BB creams. None of them have primer, barely can moisturize, are not anti-ageing, cannot level out rosacea, and likely have no SPF or very little. Yes that’s right, most of the American brands are just bad tinted moisturizers. Avoid the scheming by once again going overseas. Missha Perfect Cover BB cream (another Korean brand) is known worldwide for delivering every property you could possibly look for.
Blush- Powder blush is known to wear off very quickly, and for pale girls like me that that is an issue. Now I hate to repeat myself time and time again, but to have your cheek colour last all day use a stain! Yep, grab that stain you are using on your lips, dot two small dabs on your cheeks immediately after foundation and before powdering, and blend away. Another great alternative to stains especially if you have dry skin is a cream blush. Use a stipple brush to control the amount that you put on, and that blush will have the same staying powder as your foundation. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
Now we all know that breaking up is hard to do, but love is a battlefield. Don’t rely on that tainted love to keep you satisfied against all odds. Tell that old makeup to leave on a jet plane because you’re not gonna take it….anymore.
I think I may just conduct all conversations in song title from now on.

Love your suggestion to use an overseas brand for BB cream.
Thank you so much!
Very interesting about overseas BB cream – because it was an Asian sample that got me totally beyond intrigued with BB creams and then the american ones were like junk. This BB cream was seriously like magic and it would have been my everyday magic. But I could not find it anywhere – where on earth do you buy Asian products? This particular was called Skinhouse BB cream – you could buy it in lots of 500, haha! Anyone wanna go in on that one with me, lol? A co-op!

When it comes to overseas products Ebay is your best friend! I swear I remember seeing Skinhouse in my never-ending searches.
Hmmm…well there’s etude house – but it is Asian and not expensive so it might be awesome.
I’ll keep looking, thanks for the reply.
Fading cheeks no more – “HOP ON THE BUS BLUSH” gotta “GET A NEW BRAND MAN”.
